As the 2020 elections rapidly approach, the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) designed a forum to address growing concerns regarding accessibility and security. This all-day forum brought together state and local election officials, people with disabilities, disability advocates, and election security experts to discuss issues and advance solutions.

The Board of Advisors will receive an overview and updates on EAC agency operations. The Board will hold an Intel briefing discussion, a panel discussion on Disaster Management & Recovery Working Group presentations, an EAVS presentation, and a panel discussion on accessibility. The Board will receive updates on the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0 Principles and Guidelines. The Board of Advisors will hold discussions on the VVSG 2.0’s Technical Requirements.

The forum came just weeks after the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 provided $380 million in new Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Election Fund grants.

Ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) hosted an all-day summit to highlight a spectrum of issues that state and local election officials will face as they work to administer a secure, accessible and efficient 2018 Federal Election.

The EAC kicked off Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a live stream roundtable discussion on how to prevent cyberattacks and resources available for election officials developing incident response plans. The event brought together cybersecurity experts and local election officials who discussed the unique challenge hackers present, understanding what it means to be the target of a nation-state actor and the collaborative approach needed to update and strengthen jurisdictions’ cyber safeguards.

During the month of September, the EAC brought awareness to National Voter Registration Day by using a new Registration -> Participation campaign to highlight the importance of registering to vote, updating your current voter registration information, and why exercising the right to vote is fundamental to our democracy.

During this TGDC Meeting held by EAC and NIST the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) version 2.0 as recommended by the TGDC was adopted and a resolution Ensuring Accessibility and Security was passed.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission and Democracy Fund Voice convened election officials, voting rights groups, and other experts to meet and share best practices and tools for effective language assistance.

Public meeting to examine the Department of Homeland Security's decision to designate election systems as part of the nation's critical infrastructure.

Panelists provided examples of successful state voter list maintenance approaches, offered best practices and examined tools available to help election officials improve the accuracy of voter registration rolls.

EAC and NIST held a meeting of the TGDC on February 13-14, 2017 at the U.S. Access Board in Washington DC. The meeting focused on the development of next-generation voluntary voting system guidelines.

The EAC met to review the 2016 Election and Celebrate 10th Anniversary of Testing & Certification.
