2021 - Winner for I Voted Stickers

Maryland - State of Maryland

Program Title
Student I Voted Sticker Art Contest
Program Summary
Erin Perrone received a letter from a student in Montgomery County, MD expressing concerns of the "boring"I Voted" stickers. She suggested a contest. Erin found inspiration in the letter. She worked in concert with Department of Education's Fine Arts Office to develop a contest for public school students, Pre-K " high school. Everyone was excited for young people to be involved in the voting process and democracy.
Three categories were established: elementary, middle, high school. Students submitted designs and a panel of judges (art professionals/ teachers) evaluated submissions based on certain criteria. The top 3 submissions were selected from each category and a public voting period of the 3 top submission was held on social media to select the winners.
After the public voting, the winners were announced and they received a $100.00 gift card for art supplies. Their art teacher also received $500.00 to purchase art supplies or equipment art programs.
The 3 winning stickers were printed and distributed to voters during the 2020 election cycle. Voters loved the new and improved stickers! The Pandemic limited in-person voting in 2020. Maryland plans to distribute the stickers during the 2022 elections, and hold another contest for the 2024 Elections.
