“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."

-President Franklin D. Roosevelt

It’s National Voter Registration Day and the EAC is pleased to mark the occasion with one last reminder to plan to vote in the next election! As FDR’s famous quote reminds us, the right to vote starts with each of us, and the first step is voter registration.

In recent weeks, the EAC has proudly partnered with the National Voter Registration Day team to urge all eligible voters to register to vote or verify the accuracy of their existing registration. This important campaign culminates today as volunteers and election officials from communities across the United States conduct voter registration drives that will provide thousands of Americans with the opportunity to register to vote.

In July, the EAC’s #PlantoVote effort kicked off as the EAC’s four Commissioners issued a joint resolution in support of National Voter Registration Day. During the past month, as the Commission’s campaign got into full swing, EAC Chairwoman Christy McCormick used the EAC’s blog to remind us to register to vote and to keep our promise to participate in democracy. EAC Vice Chair Ben Hovland later spotlighted ways that Americans from coast to coast can participate in today’s events.

Today, EAC Commissioners are in the field participating in voter registration events in Florida and Maryland. Back here at the EAC’s home base in Silver Spring, we’re hoping you’ll help us to celebrate by taking one of the following steps:

Register to vote or check your existing voter registration: Please visit our website to check your own voter registration or register to vote for the first time.

Find an official National Voter Registration Day event near you: This link will connect you with up-to-date information about official events near you and put you in touch with those coordinating efforts at the national level.

Tell us how you #plantovote: Use social media to get in the game! Connect with us on Twitter or Facebook to let us know your voter registration story and why you #plantovote in the next election.

The EAC is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner, and we can’t wait to hear how many Americans become newly registered voters this year. We congratulate our partners on a job well done!
