WHEREAS, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission is an independent, bipartisan commission established by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 and solely focused on providing resources for election officials and the voters they serve; and
WHEREAS, every eligible citizen should have the opportunity to cast a ballot, though many Americans are not able to vote because they miss a registration deadline or are unfamiliar with how to register; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and election administrators across the country understand that remedying this problem begins with education and making the process as easy as possible, particularly for voters who have historically faced access issues at the polls; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission commends the efforts of election officials, civil society organizations, and private citizens for ensuring every eligible citizen has the ability to cast a ballot; and
WHEREAS, the Commission recognizes that this work provides opportunities for participation strengthens our elections and democracy as a whole; and
WHEREAS, National Voter Registration Day brings Americans from all walks of life together to encourage more citizens to exercise their civic duty by taking the first step of registering to vote;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Commissioners of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, recognize the fourth Tuesday of each September as National Voter Registration Day and commit to joining national efforts to support voter registration and participation in elections.
