The 2016 EAVS: What to Expect

Election Administration and Voting Survey (EAVS)

At the end of June this year the EAC will release its 2016 Election Administration and Voting Survey (EAVS). As it has in the past, this report will include a ton of great election administration information, including data related to:

  • Voter registration
  • Military and overseas voting
  • Absentee ballots
  • Polling places and poll workers
  • Provisional ballots
  • Election Day activities and voting equipment

While we will release this year’s report with detailed information on each section of the survey, we also look forward to presenting the EAVS data in new ways. Working with the Fors Marsh Group, the organization administering the survey, we plan to develop comprehensive maps, data visualizations, infographics, and quick summaries of state information that will be easy to use and be helpful in highlighting key data points.

Over the next several months, we will continue to blog and provide updates about the 2016 EAVS. After its release, we will start to share our initial plans for the 2018 and 2020 surveys. It never hurts to get a head start on planning, right? We will be working with election officials and other stakeholders to consider potential revisions to the survey, with the goal of making it even easier to complete while still collecting data that is essential to understanding the elections process. Make sure to stay tuned for more information and let us know what data you’re most excited to see!
