Partnering with our community to add ASL into the visual Video Voters Guide
Program Summary
American Sign Language (ASL) is a complex language thats distinct from English and other spoken languages. Beginning in 2023, this outreach program provided voting information and candidate statements in recorded ASL videos. It is a new collaboration between the Secretary of States office, members of the states accessibility community, and TVW.org, a trusted nonprofit broadcasting organization. The successful partnership added ASL and closed captioning to the statewide Video Voters Guide. The suggestion came directly from members of the Washington State accessibility advisory committee, and the office implemented a plan to make it happen.
