EAC operates a voting system testing and certification program. This program certifies, decertifies and recertifies voting system hardware and software and accredits test laboratories, marking the first time in history that the federal government holds this responsibility. While states are not required to participate in the program, some have enacted laws that require some level of participation. Learn more about State Requirements and the Federal Voting System Testing and Certification Program (Note: EAC is in the process of updating this document; for the most recent list of states that require certification, go here).

For additional information on certified voting systems and systems under test, including test plans, test reports, and scope of certifications, please see the Voting Systems Status Report. For general questions about the EAC's Voting System Testing and Certification program, visit our FAQ page.
