EAC sends VVSG 2.0 Requirements to advisory committees for review, solicits public comments, and schedules first public hearing

Commissioners held a hearing to discuss the proposed Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0 Requirements as submitted by the Technical Guidelines Development Committee (TGDC). The VVSG 2.0 Requirements are currently published for a 90-day public comment period. Commissioners heard from a panel of experts who provided an introduction to the VVSG process as well a high-level overview of the proposed VVSG 2.0 requirements.

The Technical Guidelines Development Committee (TGDC) discussed the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines 2.0 (VVSG 2.0) Usability and Accessibility Requirements.
During this TGDC Meeting held by EAC and NIST the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) version 2.0 as recommended by the TGDC was adopted and a resolution Ensuring Accessibility and Security was passed.

The hearing will feature testimony from EAC and NIST staff, as well leaders from the EAC’s Standards Board and Board of Advisors. It will also include a public comment period. The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the EAC’s website.

Commissioner Thomas Hicks has been selected to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), a position effective Feb. 24. He will be Chairman for one year and will continue to serve alongside EAC Commissioners Christy McCormick, who now moves to the role of Vice Chair, and Commissioner Matthew Masterson, who served as chairman during the past year. Hicks previously served as Chairman from February 2016 to February 2017.

A set of 17 core voting system functions that will guide the Election Assistance Commission’s (EAC) next generation of Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) was unanimously approved this week by the EAC’s Standards Board. The vote came during the board’s annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas. Previously in February, the core principles were adopted for recommendation to the Standards Board during the EAC’s Technical Guidelines Development Committee’s (TGDC).

The Election Assistance Commission today certified a modification to the Hart InterCivic Verity Voting 2.2.1 voting system, verifying its compliance with current federal voting system standards. The determination came after a thorough test campaign conducted by EAC and SLI Global in Wheat Ridge, Colo. The modification is specifically designed to accommodate Michigan’s straight party voting method.

The Election Assistance Commission today certified Election Systems & Software’s (ES&S) EVS 5.2.2.0 voting system, verifying its compliance with current federal voting system standards. The EVS 5.2.2.0 is a modification to the previously certified EVS 5.2.1.0 voting system. The determination came after a thorough test campaign conducted by EAC and NTS Huntsville.
