IEEE Seeks Comments on Draft Standard
Posted on August 30, 2011
The IEEE 1622 Working Group is accepting public comments for its draft Standard for Voting Equipment Electronic Data Interchange. Go here to review the draft standard and to submit comments.
The draft standard defines common data interchange formats for blank ballot distribution to facilitate the casting of ballots by military and overseas voters. The draft standard is being developed primarily to meet the requirements of Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) and the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act. Please note that the current scope does not include the return of cast ballots by electronic means.
The draft is the initial step in developing a complete set of international standards specifying electronic data interchange formats used by components of the voting system for exchange of electronic data (also referred to as “common data format standards”). Subsequent standards will address other requirements for electronic data interchange formats used by components of voting systems for exchange of electronic data.
