· Please review and follow the General Instructions, the Application Instructions and your State specific instructions contained within the form prior to filling out the application.
· You must follow the-specific instructions listed for your state. They begin on page 3 of the form and are listed alphabetically by state.
· After filling out this form, you must sign your name where indicated and send it to your state or local election office for processing.
States That Do Not Accept the NVRA Voter Registration Application
The form is accepted by all states with the following exceptions:
· North Dakota: North Dakota does not require voter registration, but residents may want to contact the North Dakota Secretary of State’s office for more information about voting.
· Wyoming: Wyoming by law, cannot accept this form unless state law is changed. Applicants should contact the Wyoming Secretary of State’s office for voter registration information.
· New Hampshire: Town and city clerks will accept the NVRA application only as a request for their own absentee voter mail-in registration form, which must be received by the applicant’s city or town clerk by 10 days before the election. These addresses are listed on the New Hampshire Secretary of State’s web site.
BACKGROUND: The National Mail Voter Registration Form (NVRA form) can be used by American citizens to register to vote (state exceptions are listed above). The NVRA form is available on the EAC website in PDF format. The form consists of the application together with general instructions for completing the form, and followed by application instructions that are specific to your state. It also has a page with a fillable application which enables you to type in the required information before you print and sign the hard copy. The application form must be printed, signed and mailed to the address provided in your state specific instructions.
· NOTE: The state specific instructions include requirements for residency and age, what type of identification number you must provide, whether political party registration is required for you to vote in primaries, the address to send your application and other important information specific to your state of residence.
