Voting System Testing Update 7.18.12

from: Jessica Myers on Jul 18, 2012

The EAC will post a “Voting System Testing Update” blog each week in an effort to keep everyone informed of the progress systems in the EAC’s Testing and Certification Program are making each week.  We hope that this adds additional transparency to our process and allows stakeholders to get a weekly update about test campaigns that impact their jurisdiction.

Voting Systems under Test:

·         Dominion Democracy Suite 4.9. Wyle received all hardware needed for testing. EAC traveled to Wyle to see the system; meet with representatives from Wyle and Dominion; and review the changes proposed in this modification. Wyle is in the process of reviewing source code for this modification. If you would like to view documents related to this test campaign, please visit our website. Jessica Myers is the project manager on this test campaign.

·         Dominion Sequoia WinEDS 4.0. The EAC received an amended report on June 18, 2012 and has reviewed this report. EAC is in discussion with Dominion about the next steps in this test campaign. For documents related to this test campaign, please visit our website. Jessica Myers is the project manager on this test campaign.

·         Election Systems & Software (ES&S) Unity 3.4.0.0. The EAC approved the Unity 3.4.0.0 Test Plan on July 17, 2012. The EAC is working with Wyle and ESS to clarify information about the root cause analysis for the “Decision Late” discrepancy. The EAC drafted two RFIs pertaining to the Section 7 requirements of the 2005 VVSG and asked for all manufacturers to submit comments by July 9, 2012 and is revising those RFIs based on comments received. ES&S For documents related to this test campaign, please visit our website. Jessica Myers is the project manager on this test campaign.

·         Election Systems & Software (ES&S) EVS 5.0.0.0. On Friday, July 13, Wyle informed EAC that after the completing of Test Case Sequencing for ERM and Express vote, and acceptance of the Test Plan, ES&S would like to halt testing on EVS 5.0.0.0. This was due to the potential impact the recent draft RFIs on telecommunications security. For documents related to this test campaign, please visit our website. Joshua Franklin is the project manager on this test campaign.

If you would like more information about the certification process, please read Chapter 4 and 5 of the Testing and Certification Program Manual. If you have additional questions or would like additional information about a particular voting system, please email Jessica Myers at jmyers@eac.gov.
