2008 Election Day Survey

Update: The deadline for submitting comments has been extended to 4:00 p.m. on May 21, 2008.

Background
The EAC seeks comment from the public on its 2008 Election Day Survey. This data collection effort is authorized under the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). Section 202 of HAVA requires EAC to serve as a national clearinghouse and resource for the compilation of information and review of procedures with respect to the administration of Federal elections. Section 202(3) authorizes EAC to conduct studies and to carry out other duties and activities to promote the effective administration of Federal elections.

Under the HAVA mandate, the EAC administers a biennial survey to capture information pertaining to the impact of the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA). HAVA also requires that the EAC collect information related to the processes and procedures used both to register voters and to serve uniformed and overseas citizens wishing to vote pursuant to the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA) of 1986.

Deadlines
The comment period ends on May 19, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Instructions
Please submit comments on the proposed 2008 Election Day Survey. Where a substantive issue is raised, please propose a recommended change. All comments that have been submitted by the close of the comment period will be summarized and provided to EAC staff for consideration.
