12/30/04 - U.S. ELECTION ASSISTANCE COMMISSION TO HOLD INSTALLATION CEREMONY FOR 2005 OFFICERS

Washington, DC - Members of Congress will lead a ceremony Monday to install new officers at the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. EAC Commissioner Gracia Hillman, a former executive director of the League of Women Voters of the U.S., will be sworn in as chair by U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who nominated her to serve on the commission. U.S. Congressman John Larson (D-CT), ranking member on the U.S. House Administration Committee, will emcee the proceedings. U.S. Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) will also speak.
EAC Commissioner Paul DeGregorio will be installed as vice chair during the new officer installation ceremony. He will be sworn in by U.S. Congressman Bob Ney (R-OH), chairman of the U.S. House Administration Committee.
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission, established by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA), is an independent agency charged with promoting the effective administration of elections under federal law. EAC commissioners are DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., Gracia Hillman, Paul DeGregorio and Ray Martinez.
